Bio

 

As a neuroscientist, Dr. Byrnes is interested in the brain mechanisms of psychiatric disorders, brain injury, and the neuropharmacology of psychotropic drugs. He has held positions in academia and the pharmaceutical industry, including Head of In Vivo Pharmacology at Ore Pharmaceuticals, Research Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Tufts University School of Medicine, Staff Scientist at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, and Instructor in Psychiatry at New England Medical Center. He has also served as Clinical Fellow and Coordinator of the Cognitive Rehabilitation Program at Westborough State Hospital. Currently, he is a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, a Fellow at the Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy, and a Neurobehavioral Services Clinician at the Neuro-Rehabilitation Center at Middleboro. Dr. Byrnes is a journal and book reviewer, author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications, and a member of the Society for Neuroscience, New York Academy of Sciences, and the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society. He holds a Doctoral degree in Neuroscience and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Byrnes joins MWN as a Neuroscience Consultant, providing research expertise for cases involving complex brain-behavior relationships.
